She may have pulled on some slacks

And a worn out tank top

Having hardly glanced

Across the many racks

Of a trendy Goodwill crop.

But she wears her air

With such a care

That anyone looking

Might forget they care

About which clothes she wear.

And rather than stare

They might come aware

Of all the things beneath.

But if lacking inner personality,

That nothing will fulfill,

May God forgive you and show pity,

Because it’s certain no one else will.

*Written very quickly, in certain need of editing, after reading quite a lot of Dorothy Parker.
