Delicate things often break.

Glass and paper and porcelain

And most things beautiful

Will shatter and you can’t un-make

The damage.

For the surface of a broken object

Appears quirky and rough, like it can’t contain

Everything it should. But only a fool

Would assume each crack leaks

and neglect the repaired piece without even a test

Of strength.

And if it fell again (of course it did) and crumbled all to bits

(I know, you did your best),

Or down its entire length,

You would find pieces still intact. So instead of throwing fits

At the fragility, think instead how wonderful it would be to find even just one shard
